What is the PMI International Project of the Year?

The Project Management Institute (PMI) has established a number of awards to recognize and honor contributors to the Institute and for achievement in the project management field. One of those is the Project of the Year (POY) Awards Program.

The purpose of the POY Awards Program is to recognize, honor, and widely publicize the accomplishments of the project teams who choose to thrive for excellence in the application of project management principles and techniques. Projects from everywhere in the world are encouraged to participate, regardless of size, industry type or location. PMI affiliation is not necessary, however the project must be essentially complete at the time of nomination. providing:

Nomination Procedure

Preliminary Level. POY nominations must first be submitted to the Regina / South Saskatchewan Chapter. Projects submitted at this level will be reviewed by a panel of judges designated by the Chapter. Submissions must be received by the Regina/South Saskatchewan Chapter by Friday, January 26, 2006.

2003 Grey Cup

This prestigious award was awarded to the "2003 Grey Cup" project submitted by the Strategy and Planning Committee of the Grey Cup 2003 organization. The management of Grey Cup 2003 was distinctive as it brought project management to the volunteer sector for the first time. This had never been done previously for a major event in Regina. A project manager was assigned to every committee, with the Strategy and Planning Committee acting as the overall project manager until the hiring of the General Manager in January 2003. The award was presented at the local chapter's annual professional development conference on May 12, 2004. Accepting the award was Bob Gourlay, VP Strategy and Planning, Moe Martin, AVP Strategy and Planning, and Jade Gritzfeld, PM Strategy and Planning.


Project Management Institute Regina / South Saskatchewan Chapter
Awards Project of the Year Award for 2003

This prestigious award was awarded to the project entitled "Local Connect Implementation / Local Number Portability" submitted by a team of 4 project managers from SaskTel. The project managers were Candace Bligh, Dawn Gillies, Daryl Hoffman and Dixie Vitic. Daryl Hoffman, Manager of Local Competition Implementation commented that the "project followed a disciplined project management approach using PMBOK (sic Project Management Body of Knowledge) principles which helped to achieve a delivered set of services, processes, systems and educated staff which exceeded client expectations". The award was presented at the local chapter's annual professional development conference on March 26, 2003.
